Return & Comfort Guarantee Policy — Cain's Bedding & Waterbeds

Effective date: June 25, 2026

We want you to love how you sleep. Because mattresses and waterbeds are personal — and because Illinois law treats an opened, slept-on mattress as "secondhand" (it can't be resold) — our return rules are a little different from a clothing store's. Here's exactly how it works, in plain English.

Starting a return

Contact us by phone, email, or in-store with your order number within your return window and we'll issue a Return Authorization (RA). Items returned without an RA may be refused. Keep your receipt, and keep the original tags — including the sewn-in law tag — intact. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method; returns we accept outside the normal rules are refunded as store credit. Original delivery/shipping is non-refundable (on free-delivery orders, our actual outbound cost is deducted). You pay return shipping on changed-mind returns; we pay it for defects or freight damage reported in time.

Mattresses — our 90-Night Comfort Guarantee

  • Unopened, factory-sealed: returnable within 30 days if the packaging is fully intact (a 15% restocking fee applies; you cover transport).
  • Opened / slept-on: Illinois law means no changed-mind cash refund — but we've got you covered with our 90-Night Comfort Guarantee:
    • Sleep on it for a mandatory 30-night break-in (new beds need time, and your body needs time to adjust), then if it's not right, you get a one-time exchange for a different model any time within 90 nights.
    • It's an exchange, not a cash refund — you pay any price difference, plus a flat comfort-exchange handling fee and redelivery.
    • To qualify, a mattress protector is required (we'll set you up with one), and the bed must come back clean, unstained, undamaged, with the law tag intact.
  • Always excluded: clearance, floor models, and "as-is" items, and any mattress with a removed law tag, stains, soiling, odor, or damage.

Waterbeds & custom / made-to-order

  • Water mattresses or bladders that have ever held water are final sale — once filled they can't be resold (this is standard across the trade).
  • Unfilled, factory-sealed waterbed mattresses are returnable within 30 days only if still sealed and never filled (you cover shipping).
  • Custom-configured, made-to-order, and call-for-pricing builds are final sale except for defects or freight damage. These require a 25% non-refundable deposit once production starts.

Furniture

  • Request a return within 7 days of delivery; items must be like-new with original packaging, hardware, and tags. A 15% restocking fee applies and you cover return freight.
  • Final sale: custom/special-order, clearance, floor models, and "as-is" (except defects or freight damage).

Parts, accessories & linens

  • Sheets, pillows, protectors, comforters: returnable only if unopened/sealed (hygiene); opened items are final sale.
  • Waterbed chemicals, heaters, liners, and parts: final sale once opened; unopened items returnable within 30 days (you cover shipping). Components carry their own manufacturer warranties.

Manufacturer defects & warranty

Defects are covered by the manufacturer's warranty (terms vary by brand; we'll help you file). A defect is handled by repair or replacement per the maker — it isn't a comfort/changed-mind return. Coverage is voided by stains, soiling, or burns; a removed or illegible law tag; improper support (the wrong foundation, or a waterbed without an approved, intact safety liner); or abuse, misuse, and normal wear.

Delivery & freight damage

Inspect big-and-bulky items before you sign — your signature confirms good condition. Note any damage on the delivery receipt before signing, take photos, and keep the packaging. You can refuse a visibly damaged piece and we'll replace it and handle the carrier claim at no cost to you. Report concealed damage within 3 business days with photos; after that it's manufacturer-warranty only.

Restocking

Eligible non-defective returns carry a 15% restocking fee. There's no fee on defective, freight-damaged, or our-error items. Comfort-Guarantee exchanges use the flat handling + redelivery fee noted above.
